So you think David Bell is on a bit of a hot seat in Cincinnati
So sayeth the voters!
Last night saw Elly De La Cruz pick up 4 hits, steal 4 bases, and score 3 runs to lead the Cincinnati Reds past the behemoth Los Angeles Dodgers in the series opener at Dodger Stadium, doing wonders for both morale and the Reds status at the bottom of the National League Central.
Prior to last night’s heroics from Elly, however, the Reds had been a stumbling, blithering mess for the entire month of May, slipping to 7 games under .500 and into last place in the division. It was enough to prompt the question of whether manager David Bell was on the hot seat in this, his 6th season at the helm of the Reds in which time they’ve won precisely nothing of note.
While you could have said his seat was hotter than you did, the plurality of voters in the latest DraftKings Reacts post suggested there’s at least a little bit of heat under his seat should things not get pointed more in the right direction.
With 6 more games against the Dodgers between today and May 26th, there certainly are a number of opportunities for the Reds to show what they’re really made of on the horizon, and doing so - and getting back into the race - would go a long way towards Bell picking up some more goodwill in his position.
Who are we kidding, though - there’s no way this Reds ownership is going pay two managers at the same time.
