Interstate 680 to partially close this weekend for repairs

Several lanes of southbound Interstate 680 will be closed Friday night through Monday and again May 31 through June 3 to repave deteriorated parts of the freeway, according to a Caltrans press release.

The closures will affect the stretch of the freeway between Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon and the connector with Interstate 580 in Pleasanton. The three left lanes will be closed off for the repaving from 9 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Monday on both weekends.

Two lanes will remain open, but drivers are encouraged to take alternate routes to help alleviate expected traffic congestion, Caltrans said.

Caltrans will also close the express lane and left shoulder on northbound I-680 from Amador Valley Boulevard in Dublin to Alcosta Boulevard in San Ramon, according to the release. The northbound connector with Interstate 580 will remain open.

The work will upgrade degrading pavement and will decrease the need for future overnight closures. Caltrans said that each weekend closure will accomplish the equivalent of 40 overnight closures.
