‘I’m all in’ – Heung-min Son urges Spurs fans to buy into Postecoglou’s methods

Son Heung-min has insisted he fully believes in Ange Postecoglou and is confident that the Australian will bring success to Tottenham if everyone gets behind him.

Some of the optimism that surrounded the start of Postecoglou’s tenure has now dissipated over the past few months as Tottenham are stumbling to the finishing line, having failed to qualify for the Champions League.

However, there is no doubt that the Spurs boss still has the backing of the majority of the fan base, with many seeing signs of encouragement this season.

Son called on everyone at Tottenham, including the fans, to get behind the 58-year-old and added that he expects significant improvement from the side next season.

The South Korean told Standard Sport: “We should understand it’s the gaffer’s first year and he brought so much positivity and different football.

“I know it’s early to say, but we’ve got to do so much better for next season, because I still believe he can bring so much success to the club. I’m all in. I’m loving the way he wants to play. It’s the first time I’ve experienced it.

“Everybody — the club, the players, also the fans — everybody has to step up, because we have to be all together in this. He’s definitely shown he can bring success to the club.”

Postecoglou clearly was not a happy man after Tottenham’s loss to Manchester City, with the Australian stating that the days leading up to the game showed him that the foundations at the club are ‘fragile’ (Football.London).

However, Son insisted that despite what the fans wanted, the players were only focused on winning the game.

The South Korean said about Tuesday’s clash: “As players, we all wanted to do our best for the club and for us [against City]. We really didn’t care about anything else. We only concentrated on what’s best for us, for the team.

“The players, the staff who have had so many sessions, so many games, so much travelling, we just wanted to do the best for them. We didn’t want to do anything else.”

Arsenal fans will certainly not forget Son’s miss in the 85th minute of the game, with the Tottenham captain’s shot being City substitute goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, just moments before City doubled their lead.

When asked about his miss, the 31-year-old responded: “I’m also human. The keeper made a really good decision and made himself really big. But I take the responsibility not to score that big chance for the team, because the team was working really hard and trying to get a good result.”

Even though results might have been quite poor over the last few months, the players’ effort and attitude certainly cannot be questioned and it is clear that everyone in the squad has fully bought into Postecoglou’s methods.
