The £1.50 trick to get rid of grot on my paving slabs in 10 minutes – I’ve tried loads of methods but this is a winner

SHE’S tried loads of different ways to get rid of the grot and green on her paving slabs.

But Anouk hadn’t had much luck getting the stones clean again, until she tried a £1.50 solution recommended by others.

She’d initially taken to social media to ask for advice to get rid of the algae and dirt on the slabs.

And while she was inundated with suggestions, there was one that has been more successful than the others.

“Best one I’ve found so far is the mould spray from Astonish,” one person commented on one of Anouk’s videos.

“Just wet the patio, spray, scrub a little if you like.

“Leave for 10 mins and wash away!”

Anouk tried out the hack in another video on TikTok, which began with her liberally spraying the Astonish Mould and Mildew Blaster over the slabs.

She did as the person had suggested – using a garden broom to aggravate the product and get it into the grooves of the slabs.

She then waited for 10 minutes, before washing it off, with the slab looking vastly better when she’d finished.

“Thank you everyone for sharing all these amazing ideas!” she wrote over the top of the video.

“I’ll keep trying as many as I can!”

People in the comments were quick to weigh in, with lots advising Anouk to give it a jet wash.

“Simple, use a pressure washer,” one wrote.

“I think you should just get a pressure washer, if you don’t have an outside tap that works,” another added.

“Hydroshot is good it’s extremely satisfying as well!”

“Jet wash will get rid asap,” a third commented.

“Definitely,” someone else agreed.

“My patio was worse than this recently with algae and the Karcher with the detergent bottle did the job immediately.”

While others offered their own suggestions to Anouk as to how she could get the slabs mildew-free once again.

“Bar keepers friend???” one wrote.

“Please please please try the wire brush,” another added.

Garden features that add the most value to a house

A well-kept garden can add anywhere between 5-20% to the value of a property.

Sellhousefast.uk carried out a study and consulted 36 estate agents, garden designers and property professionals from across the UK.

And the experts revealed the garden feature which adds the most value to a property is a shed.

  1. Shed – 82%
  2. Patio or paving – 76%
  3. Secure fencing, walls or gates – 72%
  4. Outdoor lighting – 66%
  5. Sturdy decking – 62%
  6. Water features eg. fountain or pond – 58%
  7. Modern garden furniture – 54%
  8. Artificial lawn/grass – 40%

“I have these exact slabs in my garden and I just brush them with a hand held wire brush and they came up so white.

“Trust me it works!”

“I promise you cheap 59p bleach does the trick the best!” a third commented.

“I used caustic soda and small outdoor brush, one with smaller bristles is better,” someone else said.

“Bleach works – my MIL doesn’t even use the jet washer anymore as she uses bleach a couple of times a year her patio looks like it’s just been laid,” another added.

“Sodium Hypochlorite. It will be like new,” someone else wrote.

“Bicarbonate soda, and boiling hot water and scrub might be worth a try,” another commented.
