U.S. stocks close lower after records set

NEW YORK, May 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Thursday, after all three indexes set records earlier in the day amid revived hopes that the Federal Reserve will cut its main interest rate this year.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 38.62 points, or 0.10 percent, to 39,869.38, after briefly jumping above 40,000 for the first time. The S&P 500 sank 11.05 points, or 0.21 percent, to 5,297.1. The Na
