Japan's Sony reports increased profits

TOKYO, Japan: This week, Japanese electronics and entertainment giant Sony said that due to strong sales of its video games, music and movies, its profits surged 34 percent in the last quarter.

The Tokyo-based company's quarterly profit totaled 189 billion yen (US$1.2 billion), up from 141 billion yen in the previous year, while its quarterly sales rose 14 percent to 3.48 trillion yen ($22 billion).
