U2’s Adam Clayton grows close to female friend days after confirming end of 10-year marriage
U2’s Adam Clayton does not seem to be hanging around when it comes to finding love again.
The bassist announced last month that he and Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho, his wife of ten years, had divorced.
But insiders told me he has now grown close to brand consultant Lainey Sheridan-Young, taking her as his date to the relaunch of restaurant Sushisamba in London just two days after the news of his split broke.
A source said: “Adam and Lainey came to the dinner together and were very close.
“They were very tactile with each other and seemed incredibly happy together.
“His relationship with Mariana ended some time back, way before he and Lainey grew close.”
While Adam and Lainey weren’t pictured together at the relaunch, last Friday they posed together at a posh lunch thrown by the Oscars in the capital’s Corinthia hotel.
Lainey’s Instagram account also reveals she has spent time with Adam in recent months, including watching him and his U2 bandmates Bono, The Edge and Larry Mullen Jr play at The Sphere in Las Vegas in February, and hanging out with him in the US city.
Adam, who shares daughter Alba with former human rights lawyer Mariana, said their divorce was amicable when they put out a statement on April 28.
They married in a Dublin registry office in 2013 before having a fancier do in a 14th-century chateau in France.
He was previously engaged to supermodel Naomi Campbell and PA Susie Smith but they made it down the aisle.
Adam has previously admitted that U2’s success made him incredibly popular with women, which won’t come as a shock to anyone.
He told Q in 2001: “I think one of the great things about bands is that they allow you to be irresponsible for longer — whether or not in the end that’s a really healthy position to take.
“I guess I’ve been lucky in that I f***ed about until my mid-30s and now I can have more of a balanced outlook.”
I think that’s the dream for most of us, being honest.
Wakey wakey, Sabrina
SABRINA Carpenter looks like she’s ready for a snooze.
The US singer is supporting Taylor Swift on her Eras world tour, so it is no wonder she needed a lie down while posing for the Cosmopolitan magazine cover.
The Espresso hitmaker said: “I’m quite jetlagged because we’re all over the world.
“The hardest thing is turning your brain off and getting everything to quiet down.”
As well as on tour, fans can catch Sabrina at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Luton next Sunday. I’ll be in front of the stage.
LENNY Kravitz has been confirmed as the headliner for the Champions League final kick-off show on June 1, which I told you would happen three months ago.
The US star will perform fan favourites and debut new songs during the show, presented by Pepsi, at Wembley Stadium on June 1.
He said: “It’s going to be such an exciting event ahead of a final that means so much to so many.
“We can’t wait to show you all what we have in store.”
HOOPLA GOERS BE-WARE
JESSIE Ware may want to be careful what she wishes for.
The Begin Again singer has said she wants to see people getting down and dirty during her upcoming headline set at Mighty Hoopla festival in Brockwell Park, South London.
Asked what she would like to see in the crowd, Jessie said: “Am I allowed to say? I want to see eyes, massive.
“I want to see people kissing each other, I want people on top of each other, people on shoulders.
“I want people crying, I want people dancing. I want people crowd surfing. I want people having sex. I want it all.”
I love Jessie’s music and a good boogie, but this sounds like utter carnage.
I think I’ll stand at the back with a pint, to take in the view from afar.
AFTER years of fighting with her family, Britney Spears called a truce – only to delete her kind words an hour later.
The singer has been publicly locking horns with her mum Lynn, dad Jamie and sister Jamie-Lynn since breaking out of her conservatorship in November 2021.
Brit posted a now deleted picture of her family on Instagram and said: “We all have issues with our family but dear God you can’t help how much you love them.
“I’m posting this because my family is absolutely beautiful and I miss them.”
It’s not unusual for Britney to delete posts but given recent events, including telling fans she was choosing not to have surgery on a “broken” foot, it is a worrying sign.
OLIVIA EYES UK PAD
SHE has spent the past week travelling across the country as part of her Guts world tour.
But Olivia Rodrigo could soon be spending a lot more time in the UK, as I’ve learned she is eyeing up a move here.
The Good 4 U singer has told pals she wants to start house hunting for a posh London pad during her time on tour.
Given she is dating British actor Louis Partridge, it would make sense for her to buy a place in town – and it would save on plane fares.
A source said: “Olivia loves the culture here and obviously it is Louis’ home.
“She flew into the UK early to spend time in the capital ahead of her concert dates and is hoping to be here even more when her tour ends in October.
“The music scene is so big in London that she feels like it could be a great place to make tracks in the future.
“Plus her relationship with Louis is only getting stronger and she feels that having a place in London could make it easier to see him.”
I’m not surprised she is keen to spend more time here, given she is such an Anglophile.
On stage at London’s O2 Arena on Wednesday, she said: “I cannot tell you how much I love being in London. I love England so much and there’s so many English things I love.
“I love English humour, English people, English treats. Every time I’m here I get a suitcase and just fill it up with Jaffa Cakes and Percy Pigs and chocolate-covered digestives.”
Olivia is not the only one considering relocating here. Her best pal, fellow US singer Conan Gray, told us: “I love London. I could absolutely see myself moving here.”
Honestly, when they find out what the weather is like and the price of a takeaway coffee, they might think twice.
Olivia time here this month has been pretty stressful.
The first two shows on her UK leg had to be axed when the opening of Manchester’s Co-op Live arena was delayed.
And while Olivia said she wants to reschedule the gigs, I’m not sure how easy that will be considering her packed schedule.
At least if she does buy a place here, she will have somewhere nice to be holed up while she waits.
CAUGHT LIVE
MABEL @The Institute of Contemporary Arts, London
★★★★☆
THERE was some Mad Love in the room for Mabel as she made her live music comeback at the ICA.
The London-born singer, whose famous mum Neneh Cherry was in the crowd to cheer her on, returned to the venue for the first time in a decade to showcase some of her new tunes.
“I am so happy to be back,” Mabel told the crowd as she walked out on stage.
“This is where I did my first show ten years ago.”
Although she said she was nervous, Mabel’s performance was pitch perfect as she took fans on a trip down memory lane with songs like Finders Keepers and Don’t Call Me Up, which got the loudest cheers of the night.
Mabel’s show was also a celebration for her new single, Vitamins, which is her first release in two years, and it went down a treat.
Welcome back, Mabel. Don’t leave it so long next time.

NEMO DIVES INTO TOP RECORD DEAL
IT was a nail-biting final at Eurovision, which saw Nemo beat Baby Lasagna to lift the glass trophy.
But now the Swiss singer has bigger fish to fry – and has signed a major record deal here less than a week after the victory.
I can reveal Nemo has been snapped up by respected label Island Records, after impressing bosses with their entry The Code.
It is a promising move, given Island has been home to artists including Amy Winehouse, Ariana Grande and Drake.
A source close to Nemo, who is non-binary, said: “This is huge for Nemo’s career.
“They have been working away in music for years, really honing their craft, and now it’s their time to shine.
“Island wants to strike while the iron is hot and get new music out this year.
“There are a lot of exciting options being explored and it’s all moving very quickly, but the world will be hearing a lot more from Nemo.”
It has been a long time coming for Nemo, who self-released their first EP called Clownfisch way back in 2015.
Sam Ryder and Maneskin have had successful careers off the back of Eurovision, so fingers crossed the same happens here.
Naomi’s caught speeding
THE new BMW XM Mystique Allure goes from 0-60mph in under four seconds.
And Naomi Campbell proved she’s a fast mover too – when she hot-footed it out of the car’s launch event in Cannes just seven minutes after she arrived.
The purple car, inspired by the supermodel was unveiled at a glamorous party at the Carlton hotel in the French Riviera.
But insiders claimed the star turn from Naomi – who arrived in a revealing olive green leather jacket, above – was short-lived.
And after her “work” was done, she sped over to a party thrown by fashion label Christian Dior across the road at the JW Marriott.
I’m not surprised Naomi made a quick exit, given that movie hunk Chris Hemworth was at the Dior bash.
I’d much rather look at his bodywork than a BMW.
