NEW YORK (PIX11) -- The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced the end of an era on Thursday, revealing they would only create two more "collectible MetroCards."

The MTA is allowing advertisers a chance to create one of the final two cards. The design "must be part of a holistic campaign that promotes your brand and the cards while also delivering a unique rider benefit/experience."

“Creating one of the final custom MetroCards is the perfect opportunity for a brand, artist, or cultural institution to cement its place in transit history,” said MTA Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Rieara. “While the MTA continues to shift to tap and go payments by using a bank card, smartphone, or wearable device, these last two cards will undoubtedly become instant collectibles.”

A limited edition Ice Spice MetroCard was released on Monday. It was the latest limited-edition card released out of the 400 different cards the MTA has released since 1994, according to the agency.
