Indepen-dance’s Dylan revels in Photographic Opportunity
As part of Queen’s Park’s recent tie-up with charity Indepen-dance, which was backed by club sponsor Escape Recruitment, Dylan Lombard was given the opportunity to be mentored by club’s long standing club photographer Ian Cairns at the home game with Airdrieonians earlier this month.
Indepen-dance member Dylan, who lives with MDP, an extremely rare syndrome with only thirteen known cases in the world, not only took the opportunity he revelled in it as he explained: “It was really good to be on the side of the pitch at Hampden and Ian was really helpful to me. He showed me lots of new techniques and it was great for him to do that. When I saw the size of his camera, I knew straightaway that I wanted to have a look through the lens.
“He was using a 400mm lens and it gave me a different perspective on taking photographs at football. You feel incredibly close to the players.
“Football and photography are two of my passions and have been since I was a small boy. I have worked at one game before when I took photographs at Everton. To work at Goodison Park and now Hampden Park is good going and to be honest I really want to do it again.”

The 90 minutes working during the Spiders’ game certainly left a positive impression on Dylan who can be seen, on the match footage, in his hi-vis bib celebrating Liam McLeish’s goal that made the score 2-0.
Dylan explained: “I really enjoyed taking pictures at such an important game and it was terrific that Queen’s Park won 2-0. My dad and I talked about Queen’s Park and how much I had enjoyed the experience. I am certainly a supporter now.”
Club Photographer Ian said: “It was a pleasure to meet Dylan before the Airdrie game and have a chat about taking pictures at a football match. He had a very good level of knowledge already and when I looked at his pictures at half-time, I could see that he is already a very competent photographer.
“It is good to know that he enjoyed the experience of being at Hampden and I would not be surprised to see him back there working at games in the future.”
