DISNEY+ has confirmed that their award winning show Welcome to Wrexham is set to return for a fourth season next year.

The docu-series has charted the story of a Welsh football team’s rise to fame after Hollywood A-listers Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the club.

Locals were surprised by the move, and several members of the fan trust that originally owned Wrexham AFC even voted against the takeover.

But the actors worked hard to gain the trust of the local community, investing in local schemes and hiring voluntary staff like Wrexham’s disability liaison officer.

The pair have succeeded in transforming the football team from underdogs who were stuck in the National League for fifteen seasons with the help of manager Phil Parkinson.

Now Wrexham is doing so well that they even secured a move to League One, which will see them playing against teams such as Oxford United FC and Portsmouth FC.

The team has also won big in the telly world, taking home five Emmys for Welcome to Wrexham during awards season.

The third season is currently airing on Disney+, with episode four slated to come out on Friday, May 17.

Cameras were given unprecedented access to the pitch during the production of season three, allowing viewers to catch glimpses of conversations the players have inside the locker room as well as out on the field.

Now the streaming platform has revealed that a fourth series has been greenlit and is expected to come out next year.

Speaking about the recent progress Wrexham FC has made, Ryan Reynolds gushed: “A few years ago, if you told me I would be crying tears of joy over a football match taking place in North Wales, you would be Rob McElhenney.

“Congrats to Wrexham and to my co-chairman in crime. Double up the town! This is the ride of our lives.”
