Assassin’s Creed fans shocked as upcoming game has a disheartening catch – but it’s not what it seems
UBISOFT has just revealed the next mainline game in the long-running franchise, and it’s set in a much-asked-for location.
Taking place in feudal Japan, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will return to the style set out in Syndicate.
Shadows will let you play as either a samurai or a ninja[/caption]Shadows will feature two protagonists with extremely different play styles so you can choose how you experience it.
The male protagonist Yasuke is based on a real-life samurai, and his gameplay will focus on combat and hitting hard.
On the other hand, the female protagonist Naoe is the fictional daughter of real-life ninja Fujibayashi Nagato, and her gameplay will be based on stealth.
Fans are excited about the concept and particularly love the setting and split play styles.
However, as the game is already available for pre-order, people have spotted an unsettling message on its PlayStation Store page.
One of the notices reads, “Online play required”, leading people to believe that they would need PlayStation Plus or another online subscription to play.
There are also concerns about online-only games as they often require a strong and stable internet connection to play.
Ubisoft has since clarified that you will only need to be online in order to download the game and that the whole game can be played offline.
The statement reads: “Assassin’s Creed Shadows will not require a mandatory connection at all times.
“An online connection will be needed to install the game, but you will be able to play the entire journey offline, and explore Japan without any online connection.”
Publishers usually don’t reveal details about their games early, but Ubisoft felt forced to do so following public backlash.
