Incredibly rare Aston Martin loved by James Bond fans & rock stars to sell for eye-watering six-figure sum
A CLASSIC Aston Martin made famous by the James Bond film series is set to attract a huge sum at an auction.
A rare 1964 DB5 is an iconic grand tourer built by the British manufacturer and designed by Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria.
One of the most desirable classic cars in existence, the DB5 featured in Bond movie Goldfinger and then returned in Thunderball a year later in 1965.
This stylish sage green duplicate was manufactured in 1964 and is one of just 887 ever made.
Its top speed exceeds 150mph, thanks to its 4.0-litre, straight-six engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
Now, the flash motor is being sold by luxury auctioneer Sotheby’s Sealed with an estimate of £425,000 to £475,000.
A spokesperson for the auctioneers said: “The model was a popular choice among celebrities with former keepers including Sir Paul McCartney, Peter Sellers, and rockers Mick Jagger and Robert Plant.
“This elegant California Sage example was delivered new to Aston Martin dealer Brooklands of Bond Street on 26 October 1964––confirmed via correspondence in the history with Aston Martin Lagonda.
“The firm’s dealer sticker is still attached to the rear window and, according to the documentation, this DB5 visited the dealer’s then-newly opened service/parts department on 28 Wellington Road, St John’s Wood, London for a ‘timing chain mod’ on 13 May 1965.”
The auctioneers claim the car was sold to its second owner in South Africa, where it remained until 1991 before returning to the UK.
Owned by the vendor since 2007, the car’s condition today reflects an excellent level of care and typifies a 1960’s dream machine.
You can register to bid on the auction, which will take place in Taplow, Berkshire.
It comes nearly a year after another James Bond Aston Martin sold for an eye-watering £1,961,500.
The 1965 DB5 Sports Saloon was used in the famous opening scene of Goldeneye, with its sale making it the most valuable piece of James Bond memorabilia sold.
