Crosby scored just 40 seconds into overtime.

Eight years ago today, Sidney Crosby came up big in overtime of Game 2 of the 2016 Eastern Conference Final.

The Penguins had dropped the opening game of the series at home to the Lightning and were at risk of falling two games behind if things didn’t go right in a pivotal second game.

It was a little bit of a chaotic first period as the Penguins jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Matt Cullen and Phil Kessel, but Tampa Bay battled back with goals from Anton Stralman and Jonathan Drouin before the period ended.

Two more periods went by and not another goal was scored and the air in PPG Paints Arena had tightened significantly as the game was headed to overtime.

Enter Sidney Crosby and one of his many signature goals.

Just 40 seconds into the extra frame, and the series was evened up at one game each.

The shot seemed to be a bender of time and space in a fantastic way.

The series was just starting to ramp up, though, with a full five more games ahead.
