Roll: Bicycle Co. to close all central Ohio locations; ownership cites industry troubles

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A central Ohio bike shop is closing the last of its shops after two decades of service.

Roll: Bicycle Co. announced on social media that it will be closing its remaining retail shops in Bexley and Upper Arlington. Founder and CEO Stuart Hunter explained the reason for closing in the post, and implored customers to take their business to other local shops.

"The bicycle business is really challenging right now, particularly for independent local retailers," Hunter wrote. "As our chapter ends, it’s my sincere hope that you will support, encourage and frequent the other amazing locally owned retailers we have in Columbus and beyond."

Previously, the bike shop also had locations in Dublin and Westerville. Those two were already closed.

The Roll: Bicycle Co shop in Bexley closed Sunday, and the Upper Arlington shop will close May 26. Until then, the bike shop is liquidating its inventory. The shop encouraged customers to come in for a visit to "snag something amazing" in the meantime.

"On behalf of our entire roll: team, both past and present, I thank you from the bottom of our hearts," Hunter said. "It’s been an honor to ride, wrench, to learn, and to support one another over so many amazing adventures, and wonderful years. I’ll forever be grateful for the experience."
