Buffalo Public Schools passes 24-25 budget
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- In a unanimous vote, the Buffalo Public Schools Board of Education passed its budget for the 2024-25 school year.
Dr. Tonja Williams, the district's superintendent, said this was not an easy process, with an estimated 30 layoffs included in the budget.
The possibility of layoffs in a number of local school districts has resulted in protests. For Buffalo Public Schools, the loss of $90 million in federal and other pandemic-era funds dealt a serious blow to the planning process.
Buffalo Public Schools has more than 7,000 staff members. In all, the approved budget totals more than $1 billion.
