In April 2024, Katowice Wojciech Korfanty Airport set a new record with 358,412 passengers, marking an 11.8% increase from 2023, driven by robust growth in charter and regular flights.

The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL S.A.) – the company managing Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport in Pyrzowice, Poland – has summarised passenger traffic for the fourth month of 2024.

During 30 full days of April, 358 412 passengers were noted at Katowice Airport, i.e. 37 888 more (+11.8%) in comparison with the same time in 2023. It was the best fourth month in Katowice Airport’s history; the previous best result for April was noted last year.

On regular flights – handled at Katowice Airport by Wizz Air, Ryanair, LOT Polish Airlines and Air Dolomiti/Lufthansa – 246 441 passengers were handled, i.e. 9 659 more (+4.1%) than in April 2023. Most popular were scheduled flights to Dortmund, London-Luton, London-Stansted, Catania and Milan-Bergamo.

111 307 persons were served on charter flights, which are handled on behalf of travel agencies. That’s 29 674 passengers more (+36.3%) than in April 2023. Passengers flying from Katowice Airport in April most often chose holiday flights to Hurghada, Antalya, Marsa Alam, Sharm El Sheikh and Fuerteventura.

“Passenger traffic at Katowice Airport is growing in accordance with our forecasts. April was the next record-breaking month for Katowice Airport. Moreover, in the night between 7 and 8 April we handled the one millionth passenger this year; never before have so many passengers been served so quickly in a single calendar year at Katowice Airport. The quickest one million was previously noted on 21 April 2023,” said Artur Tomasik, the President of the Board of the Upper Silesian Aviation Group.

In the fourth month of 2024, 3 254 aircraft takeoffs and landings were noted at Katowice Airport, i.e. 260 more (+8.7%) than in the same time last year.

From January to the end of April, Katowice Wojciech Korfanty Airport served 1 283 621 passengers, i.e. 168 092 more (+15.1%) than during the first four months of 2023.

Market position, forecasts

Katowice Airport is one of the biggest regional airports in Poland. In 2023, record 5.6m passengers flew via its network of flights. The forecast for 2024 estimates that over 6m passengers will be handled; it will be the best result in the history of Katowice Airport. Katowice Wojciech Korfanty Airport is the country leader in the area of charter traffic, and one of the biggest cargo airports in Poland.
