Chelsea fans can’t wait for vote on scrapping VAR as Blues have pen overturned and Mudryk ‘elbowed’ and no foul given

FED-UP fans saw VAR overturn a controversial Chelsea penalty – just hours after the future of video replays was put up in the air.

Angry viewers voiced relief that Premier League clubs will vote on whether VAR stays next season – after a farcical incident in the clash at Brighton.

VAR ruled Facundo Buonanotte ‘s challenge on Marc Cucurella was no penalty

Referee Michael Salisbury stunned almost everyone by giving a penalty when Seagulls‘ defender Facundo Buonanotte appeared to win the ball against old boy Marc Cucurella.

But before the Blues could take the spot-kick, VAR intervened.

Salisbury agreed to go over and watch the tackle on a pitch-side monitor – and reversed his on-field verdict.

But the whistler instead gave Brighton a goal kick – a baffling choice as the ball clearly appeared to go off one of their players.

One fan responded: “No mention that Chelsea were robbed of a corner as a result of a referee mistake. Good use of VAR.”

Another suggested: “Proves that the refs are clowns & not VAR.”

Frustrated Chelsea supporters also claimed ex-Stamford Bridge kid Tariq Lamptey escaped a red for an “elbow” on Mykhailo Mudryk.

One observer reacted: “’No conclusive evidence’. VAR isn’t the problem. It’s the officials behind the screen who are the problem in England.”

Another posted: “Var continues to be a joke vs Chelsea btw.”

And a third wrote: “Two VAR checks/decisions have gone against Chelsea in this first half.”

Cucurella, who was regularly booed, teed up Cole Palmer for the Blues’ opener on 22 minutes – his 22nd goal of the season.

But some fans still claimed Chelsea were TWICE robbed by DECISONS.

One posted: “VAR has stolen a penalty and red card.”
