Two police officers injured in Poughkeepsie car ramming
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department announced that two officers were injured during a traffic stop on May 12. The incident took place around 10 p.m. on the 600 block of Main Street.
During the stop on Sunday, police say a red 2007 Lexus was pulling into a parking spot when it backed into marked police cars. According to Poughkeepsie PD, the driver of the Lexus then allegedly rammed into the passenger's side of one of the police vehicles, causing the car to slam into an officer.
The hit reportedly resulted in the officer being sent into the air before falling onto the sidewalk, causing multiple injuries and rendering him unconscious. A second officer's foot was also struck by the sliding police car.
Police say the Lexus then fled the scene and was later found unoccupied near Cottage Street and Winnikee Avenue. The two officers were taken to the Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital to be treated for their injuries.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department tips line at (845)451-7577.
