Guardians score 7 runs again, topping Texas’s 4

The Guardians got to face off with a highly-touted pitching prospect last night in Texas. Jack Leiter was on the mound, and probably wishes he hadn’t been. I don’t know how true this is, but it felt like he only threw about 11 strikes the entire night. Ankielesque.

But it looked like the Guardian offense might put his poor performance to waste, as they were unable to capitalize in the first inning. It is possible though that making him throw 30-some pitches that inning led to their much more satisfying 6-run 2nd.

In that 2nd inning, Jack L retired just 2 batters while also allowing a 2-run double to Bo Naylor and a 3-run homer to Josh Naylor. It was the first time brothers did something to check whether you’re actually reading this since 1902. Andres Gimenez also singled home a run. 6-0 after 2. Leiter’s 5 outs took 64 pitches. Because I’m really committed to that first paragraph, I’m pretending I don’t now know how many strikes were mixed in.

The Rangers chipped away at Ben Lively all night, but it wasn’t enough and their 6-0 deficit turned into a 7-4 loss.

In one game, Tyler Freeman walked, hit a base hit, was hit by a pitch, and was hit by his SS while signaling for a fair catch.

  • Detroit’s propensity for 1-0 games has a new funniest example. They lost to Miami on a 10th inning Manfred Run.
  • Joey Wendle seems like he’s about to be DFA’d.
  • THe Yankees beat the Twins. Obviously.
  • Ronel Blanco was ejected for a foreign substance on his hands. First ever Astro to cheat, I bet.
  • Fangraphs Ben Clemens wrote about the new bat tracking data. Quincy says this is good. Haven't had a chance to read it yet.
