Cynthia Watros (‘General Hospital’) on the ‘rollercoaster’ scenes she submitted for Best Actress at the Daytime Emmys

0

Cynthia Watros is looking for a Daytime Emmy bookend. In 2024 she earned her third career Best Actress nomination, and her second for playing Nina Reeves on “General Hospital.” She previously won the award back in 1998 for her legendary performance as Annie Dutton on “Guiding Light.” Now she’s hoping lightning strikes again 26 years later. She discussed her Emmy submission and more with Soap Opera Digest. Read their entire interview here.

“Nina had a rollercoaster ride with finding out about her daughter,” Watros explained about her character’s intense storyline last year. “I put in some scenes where she finds out in the chapel … that Willow was my daughter and she was almost going to die. I also put in something where I was in the confessional with Cyrus, pretending to be a priest, and I was just talking to God, and how I’m a liar and weak and I need help.”

As it stands, Watros is the front-runner to win Emmy number-two according to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users who have placed their bets here in our predictions center as of this writing. She gets leading odds of 17/5. But she’d be only the fourth “GH” star ever to win Best Actress, following Finola Hughes in 1991 (Hughes is also nominated again this year), Laura Wright in 2011 and Maura West in 2015.

Watros also has a connection to another actor in this year’s race. Michelle Stafford previously played “GH’s” Nina before deciding to return to her signature role as Phyllis Summers on “The Young and the Restless” in 2019. Watros filled the vacancy on “GH,” and now they’re going head-to-head. “I’m just very honored to be part of this amazing group of women. I think all the women in this category do an amazing job,” Watros said. “This is such a hard medium to work, everyone deserves one of these fancy awards.”
