‘Supergirl: World of Tomorrow’ locks June 2026 release date

Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Films may currently be in production on the first of the studio’s rebooted and reimagined superhero franchise pictures, but that doesn’t mean executives can’t make announcements about the second one.

“Supergirl: World of Tomorrow” will hit theaters (and IMAX) on June 26, 2026, as per reports. Milly Alcock, the 24-year-old Australian actress, will play Supergirl, also known as Kara Zor-El, also known as Kara Danvers, the cousin of Kal-El, the Last Son of Krypton, also known as Kal-El, also known as Clark Kent, also known as Superman. Kara Zor-El, by the way, should not be confused with Kara Zor-L, also known as Karen Starr, also known as Power Girl, who is also Superman’s cousin, but, like, from a different universe. It’s complicated. Alcock is best known for the part of Young Rhaenyra Targaryen in “House of the Dragon.”

The film, directed by “Cruella” and “I, Tonya” helmer Craig Gillespie, and written by “The Vampire Diaries” scribe Ana Nogueira, will come on the heels of “Superman,” written and directed by DC Films co-head James Gunn. It is rumored that Supergirl will make her debut in that film in some capacity.

As “Superman” is said to take inspiration from the comics collection “All-Star Superman,” the follow-up is drawn from the “Supergirl: World of Tomorrow” arc written by Tom King. Her interstellar adventures involve teaming up with a powerful being named Ruthye Marye Knoll, a potential casting coup for Team DC for a more seasoned actress. Also in the mix, Krypto the Superdog. (Is Messi available?)

As anything to do with comics must be complicated, please note that just a few months after this film’s release we’re due for “The Batman—Part II” by Matt Reeves with Robert Pattinson. This movie is not set in the same universe as the other DC movies, though “The Brave and the Bold,” which will also feature Batman and is in development with director Andy Muschetti, is part of that larger storyline.
