RICHMOND — The driver in a 2021 fatal collision has pleaded no contest to driving drunk in a plea deal that led to a one-year sentence and a five-year probation term, court records show.

Katriece Irving, 33, pleaded no contest to a charge of drunken driving causing injury within 10 years of a prior DUI offense, and was sentenced to a year of confinement, a 5-year probation term and is required to take an 18-month drunk driving program, court records show. In exchange, prosecutors dropped a vehicular manslaughter charge against Irving.

Irving was identified as the driver in a May 22, 2021 single-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in West Contra Costa. Police said at the time that the car swerved off the road near the Hilltop Drive offramp, and went down an embankment.

A passenger identified as Kachonne Diamonique Irving was killed, according to the criminal complaint. Katriece Irving had a DUI conviction from 2013 in Alameda County, court records show.

The plea deal was finalized in late March, records show.
