Met Dept issues heatwave alert for Mumbai and Thane; expects thunderstorm

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Mumbai and Thane due to extreme temperatures exceeding 39 degrees Celsius. A thunderstorm is possible on Wednesday afternoon. The heatwave is expected to persist in Thane until Thursday, while Mumbai remains hot and humid. The country is bracing for the onset of the Southwest Monsoon, which is predicted to advance into the South Andaman Sea, parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal, and Nicobar Islands by May 19, 2024.
