Doubleheader gamethread: Nationals at White Sox
Let’s play two?
Are you ready for a double dose of abominable baseball, Sox fans? Well, you’re in for a treat! Your Chicago White Sox play not once but twice today! Double the fun on the South Side!
The Sox welcome the Washington Nationals to the South Side to kick off a three-game set with a doubleheader starting at 3:40 p.m. CT this afternoon. While the Pale Hose are still dreadful at 12-29, they enter play a surprising 6-4 in their last 10 games after taking three of four from the AL Central-leading Cleveland Guardians.
Fear not, Sox faithful, the South Siders still hold firmly to the bottom rung of the American League and are in a dead heat with the equally bad Miami Marlins for the league’s worst run differential. Both teams enter play today, sitting at -90. Through 41 games, the Pale Hose have been outscored by a cumulative 90 runs. Look no further as to why the South Siders sit a meager two games better than those Marlins for the worst record in the majors despite their recent stretch of semi-competent play.
If you think things are bad now, do yourself a favor and don’t look at the White Sox schedule for the rest of May. 12-29 might be the high water mark for the rest of 2024 ...
Ooof.
Obligatory 27th-man tweet:
The #WhiteSox have appointed right-handed pitcher Justin Anderson from Class AAA Charlotte to serve as the 27th player for today’s doubleheader vs. Washington.
