Nurse who worked with children guilty of possessing child pornography
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A former employee with two Columbus hospitals who treated child burn victims has pleaded guilty to possession of child sexually oriented material.
Ryan Ramos, 38, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count each of distributing and receiving child pornography and possessing child pornography.
According to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Kenneth L. Parker, Ramos worked at Nationwide Children’s Hospital from 2018 until 2020, and then at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in the ICU in the burn trauma unit until 2023. Ramos is licensed to practice as a nurse in Ohio.
Investigators determined that Ramos participated in a Signal app group that exchanged child pornography, with Ramos sharing hundreds of pictures and videos of child sexual abuse to the group, Parker said.
In 2018, Ramos also allegedly paid a sex offender in New York City $500 for child pornographic material the offender created.
Parker said Ramos’ iPhone had more than 346,000 chat messages, most of which Ramos was using to distribute, find, receive, or talk about child pornography.
Ramos was charged May 6 and pleaded guilty during his arraignment Monday. He faces between five and 20 years in prison and will remain in custody until his sentencing. No sentencing date has been scheduled.
