Roadside fight leads to DWI, animal cruelty arrests

WILTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Two people were arrested after New York State Police responded to a disabled car in Wilton on Sunday. Jennifer Hagadorn, 34, of Gansevoort and Guy Chadwick, 42, of Queensbury each face several charges.

On May 12, around 5:49 p.m., troopers responded to a disabled car on I-87 in Wilton. New York State Police say Hagadorn was driving the car when it broke down. Chadwick was a passenger, and a dog and a child under two were in the car too.

State Police say Hagadorn and Chadwick argued after the car broke down, and Hagadorn walked away from the car. At that time, Chadwick allegedly released the dog who was then struck by a passing car and was severely injured.

Police say Hagadorn gave them false information and was found with hypodermic needles and controlled substances while being taken into custody for driving while impaired by drugs. A further investigation found a court-ordered order of protection against Hagadorn protecting the child in the car.

Police say Hagadorn had a revoked driver's license due to a previous DWI conviction in the last 10 years. Additional needles, substances, and a glass smoking device with drug residue were found inside the car with the child.

Police say the car seat the child was in wasn't secured to the car. Chadwick was also arrested.

Hagadorn Charges:

  • Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (two counts)
  • Endangering the welfare of a child
  • Second-degree criminal contempt
  • Second-degree criminal impersonation
  • Aggravated driving while intoxicated (Leandra's Law)
  • First-degree aggravated unlicensed operator
  • Vehicle and traffic law violations

Chadwick Charges:

  • Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Endangering the welfare of a child
  • Torturing or injuring an animal

Hagadorn was taken to Wilton State Police where she was evaluated by a drug recognition expert and refused to provide a sample. Chadwick and the child were taken to Saratoga State Police.

The child was then turned over to a family member. A bystander took the dog from the scene to a veterinary clinic for emergency treatment.

Both Hagadorn and Chadwick were arraigned at Wilton Town Court. Chadwick was released under the supervision of the Saratoga County Probation Department. Hagadorn was remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 cash, $5,000 bail, or a $25,000 partially secured bond.
