The Placepot is a bet where you select a horse to be placed in the FIRST SIX races of any meeting.
You can pick more than one horse in a race – you just multiply the number of selections in each race to calculate your stake. So for staking it’s 2x1x2x1x2x2 which adds up to 16 lines.
You can stake what you want upwards from 5p a line. 10p a line is £1.60 with our picks and so on.
Provided at least one in each race is placed, we get a payout!
YORK WEDNESDAY PLACEPOT TIPS
LEG 1: Marhaba The Champ, Chillingham
MARHABA THE CHAMP has won both his starts at York, including an impressive effort over this trip in August. He’s 6lb higher now so will need a little more but he won first time out last season and can go close under William Buick.
CHILLINGHAM has had a little nudge down the weights since his promising turf comeback third at Ripon last time. He’s a thorough stayer who could be helped by the cheekpieces going on here. More rain would enhance his chances as he likes some cut.
LEG 2: Mr Wagyu, Aberama Gold
MR WAGYU has tumbled down the weights and ran a promising comeback when finishing strongly over 5f at Ripon last time. He’s run well several times at York and can take this wide open race.
ABERAMA GOLD has run well on his two turf starts this season and it would be no shock to see him make the frame.
LEG 3: Montassib, Swingalong
MONTASSIB was impressive when winning a big handicap here in October and looked to have improved further when taking Listed honours at Doncaster on comeback. He won by just a neck but there was plenty left under Cieren Fallon who has built up a good partnership with this six-year-old. Today’s trip suits and he could have more to offer.
SWINGALONG was fourth in the Champions Sprint after running a cracker in the Haydock Sprint Cup so is another with a touch of class.

LEG 4: Classical Song, Friendly Soul
CLASSICAL SONG caught the eye when winning her maiden at Sandown in September before going on to finish an excellent fourth in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket. Trainer Ralph Beckett has been bullish about her progress since then and this step up in distance should bring lots of improvement on pedigree.
FRIENDLY SOUL had plenty in the tank when scoring over this trip in the Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket on comeback earlier this month. She travelled sweetly there and should have more to offer for the Gosdens.
LEG 5: Elmonjed
ELMONJED goes handicapping from what looks a fair mark despite winning both his two-year-old runs. He didn’t have to hit top gear when scoring at Lingfield and Haydock and should show a lot more this season now he goes up in distance for William Haggas.
LEG 6: Against The Wind, Station X
Kevin Ryan has won this for the past two years and AGAINST THE WIND looks the pick of his pair. He is bred to want this sort of test and should know his job.
STATION X showed plenty of promise when second at Musselburgh last time. This will have been his target for a while and he won’t be far away for Bryan Smart who has plenty of success at this meeting.
