Guantanamo win Cuban Baseball5 National Championship
Guantanamo defeated Artemisa in the final, 2-0 (6-0, 7-1), to win the fourth Cuban Baseball5 National Championship.
"Sacrifice and hard work have been the key to success," said Guantamo's head coach, Llorvis Savón, speaking to the local press. "Winning became a goal of the players and staff. We shared that responsibility."
Both finalists accomplished their best result ever. Artemisa had earned two bronze medals in the previous three editions of the National Championship.
Three-time defending champions Havana, playing on home turf, beat Santiago de Cuba 2-1 (4-10, 13-3, and 6-1) to finish third.
Eros Bernal Morales, the technical head of Baseball5 in Cuba commented: "I want to thank the Cuban Volleyball Federation and their president Ariel Sainz for hosting the National Championship on their turf. I credit the Cuban Federation, the National Institute of Sports (INDER) and all those involved in the event for a great National Championship. Baseball5 is alive and kicking. We want to give the players the best opportunities to play."
Artemisa will host the Youth Baseball5 National Championship from 20 to 26 May.
