Three prison officers shot dead as gunmen attack jail van & free inmate as vehicle stopped at tollbooth in France
THREE prison officers were shot dead when they were ambushed while transporting an inmate today.
Four armed men pounced on the convoy at a tollbooth in northern France and helped the prisoner to escape.
The prisoner and attackers are now on the run with two vehicles, one of which was found burned and abandoned earlier today.
Mohamed A, the escaped inmate, is known to cops for drug trafficking and attempted murder.
The attack happened near Eure, in Normandy as the van stopped at a tollbooth in Incarville.
One of the cars used in the escape, a white Audi A5, was found destroyed in Vatteville.
The other, a BMW 5 headed in the direction of Louviers and Evreux.
Footage online appeared to show emergency services at the tollbooth following the ambush at around 11am.
A fire engine even pulled up just metres away.
The scene of the attack is near the town of Val-de-Reuil, on the A154 motorway.
