Virat Kohli Back as RCB Captain in IPL 2025? Harbhajan Singh’s BOLD Suggestion!
Bengaluru: While RCB have won five on the bounce, but it is the first half of the IPL 2024 season that may come back to haunt them in case they do not make the playoff. Will there be a temptation to ask Virat Kohli to return as captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru? Surely there would be. Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh was posed this question during the Press Room session on Star Sports.
“If they don’t qualify, they should look to get some Indian guy. Why not bring Virat Kohli back as captain? As Dhoni has a lot of impact in Chennai, Virat Kohli is a big leader, he knows the kind of cricket they need to play,” Harbhajan said.
“Now they are playing with lot of aggression, lot of intent and that is what Virat Kohli brings. I would like to see Virat Kohli leading the side going forward,” he added.
Kohli, who used to lead RCB in the past, stepped down as the captain in 2021. That is when RCB lapped up former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis and appointed him as captain. Under Du Plessis’ captaincy, the Royal Challengers have won 20 out of 40 games. In 2022, they made the playoffs whereas in the previous edition they finished sixth on the points table.
Kohli is currently the highest run-getter of the tournament. He scored 661 runs in 13 matches with a highest score of 113*. Kohli has lead Bengaluru in 143 matches where the franchise won 66 matches with a win-loss ratio of 0.94.
