AAP MP Swati Maliwal's assault allegations: What can police do without a formal complaint?

Swati Maliwal, a Rajya Sabha member of the Aam Aadmi Party, has accused Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal of assaulting her at his official residence. Maliwal, former chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, went to the police station and claimed that a close aide of Kejriwal had assaulted her on Kejriwal's directions. Police are considering legal options, including filing an FIR based on the PCR/DD entry and asking Maliwal to record her statement before a magistrate.
