Portland auto shop seriously damaged; 'Combative' man arrested
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A 34-year-old man, already wanted for an earlier crime, now faces new charges for allegedly causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage at a Northeast Portland automotive shop.
The incident in the 14000 block of NE Airport Way began around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, police said. The suspect, identified as Alvie Sanders, was combative and threw a hammer through a broken window at responding officers, officials said.
Over time, Sanders was persuaded by de-escalation tactics and surrendered peacefully, police said.
But by that time the damages to vehicles inside the business was done.
Sanders was first taken to a hospital to be treated for "self-inflicted injuries from broken glass." He was later booked at the Multnomah County Jail on the outstanding warrant and new charges of burglary, criminal mischief and theft.
