She shared a photo of the message that was handwritten in bright pink ink.
“Excuse me Mrs. Girl!” her neighbor began.
“I’ve noticed a wee bit of stench that’s lingering in the hall. I regret to inform you that you and your home reek of cat p*ss!” they continued.
The neighbor demanded she take steps to get rid of the odor.
“May you please put a diaper on your cat? Or purchase nose plugs for those that are inconvenienced by this horrific, eye-watering, nose-hair tingling, mouth-gagging, fish-clenching, stomach-turning smell,” they said.
“Sincerely, management. P.S. Sorry for the loud gagging.”
The Redditor was disappointed that their neighbor didn’t approach her directly.
“Didn’t have the decency to speak face to face. I’m normally home all day; instead, left a rude note,” they said.
“We know management; he appointed us custodians for the parking lot, weeding, shoveling snow, putting down salt in the winter.
“I could have just as easily emailed management to complain but chose to do this instead. Both the manager and owner have our emails, and management has my [fiance’s] phone number and knows our names.
“And if I can walk into my laundry room to do our laundry without gagging, I don’t know what your problem is.
“I am the one responsible for cleaning our litter boxes, I put baking soda to help cover the smell and we are using scented litter. Our cats are not allowed outside the apartment.
There were mixed reactions from viewers about the note.
How to get rid of cat pee smell
The smell of cat pee is notoriously difficult to get rid of due to the stubborn enzymes it contains.
According to Catsan, those serious about getting rid of the odor should invest in a specialized cat urine cleaner.
“If you don’t have any specialist enzymatic cleaners on hand, try cleaning the spot with vinegar first before rinsing and applying diluted dish soap detergent to help remove the smell of cat urine,” the site explained.
“You can also combine 50% white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar) with 50% water to gently clean the urine stain.”
For those looking for a quick and easy solution, cat enzyme cleaners are effective as well as safe for use around cats.
Some sided with the angry neighbor, insisting that the smell was worse than she thought because she was used to it.
“Change the cat litter,” demanded one.
“The note might be a little rude, but I would take the message seriously,” said another.
Cat owners recommended their favorite brands of litter to remedy the problem.
“Shout out [to the] World’s Best Cat Litter,” said one commenter.
“Best I’ve ever used for keeping the smell down. And [as] others have noted, your tolerance for the odor is [possibly] higher than the others.”
