Opinion: The world-class combined XI of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur

0

Manchester City are arguably the best team in world football right now, but what happens if you sprinkle some of Tottenham’s best players on top of that?

We wanted to take a look at what a half-and-half combined XI between Spurs and Man City could look like ahead of their clash on Tuesday night. After all, plenty of Spurs fans want to join forces with the Citizens against Arsenal anyway!

Although Ederson is one of the best keepers in the world, he has had a couple of injury problems this season and Guglielmo Vicario has been one of the most impressive signings of the summer, so the Spurs star gets the nod.

In defence, we have gone for two Man City and two Tottenham players. In all honesty, there are so many iterations you could go for here. Pedro Porro is extremely unfortunate to miss out but Kyle Walker remains the best right-back in the league, and perhaps the world.

At left-back, Destiny Udogie has been sensational this season for Spurs and will surely only get better, but the sheer consistency and recent goalscoring form of Josko Gvardiol just edges him out.

In the centre of defence, Man City have had lots of different partnerships this season and the likes of Dias, Ake and Akanji could all easily walk into the XI, but we have gone for Spurs duo Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven.

They have been two of the standout Spurs players this season, which is really saying something considering how open Tottenham have been at the back.

In midfield, Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne walk into the XI, with James Maddison adding some extra creativity thanks to his early season form (hopefully he can get back to that).

In attack, Erling Haaland leads the line, with Heung-min Son adding pace off the left and Phil Foden adding creativity and flair off the right. That’s some front three!
