Morning Briefing: Adrian Houser Makes Mets Bullpen Debut

0

Good morning, Mets fans!

During Friday’s game against the Braves, Adrian Houser made an appearance out of the bullpen for the first time this season. It was the first time Houser appeared in a game since being removed from the rotation after a string of brutal starts. Houser allowed a hit and two walks over two innings during his appearance, but he didn’t allow a run. Houser has much better stats coming out of the bullpen in his career, so the hope is that he can be more of a weapon as a long man out of the bullpen than he was in the rotation.

The Mets (18-19) were defeated by the Braves (23-12) 4-2 in their series opener on Friday. Jose Quintana had a rough third inning where he gave up three home runs, while Francisco Lindor clubbed his seventh home run of the year.

Carlos Mendoza told reporters on Friday that Kodai Senga will throw a bullpen session on Friday. Depending on how it goes, the Mets could schedule Senga for another bullpen session or send him on a rehab assignment.

Additionally, Brooks Raley is being shut down and is not close to a return. Mendoza couldn’t confirm if Raley’s injury is season-ending, but it’s obviously a blow to the Mets’ bullpen for Raley to miss any time at all.
