One beauty pro revealed the unusual product they use to help a smooth application.
In a Reddit post, the unnamed user explained how they learned the useful trick.
“A drag queen once gave me the tip that Monistat Complete Care Chafing Relief Gel has the same ingredient as Smashbox Photo Finish primer,” they wrote.
The products both contain Dimethicone, tocopheryl acetate, and trisiloxane.
Monistat Complete Care Chafing Relief Gel can be purchased for just $10 from CVS.
The original poster tried out the tip before applying her makeup and compared it to the $42 Smashbox Photo Finish primer, available from Sephora.
“On comparison, they appeared to be the exact same substance, though the Smashbox version was a bit more blended,” the Redditor said.
“Presumably [this is] to avoid any inconsistency in texture, which the Monistat product does sometimes have.”
Despite this difference, the poster heaped on the praise for the beauty hack.
“From my point of view, the Monistat product is the best primer I’ve ever used,” they wrote.
They revealed that they had been using the item as a primer for six years without any issues.
The Reddit user highlighted the budget-friendly benefit of the product.
“I order it in bulk from Amazon, and as of today if I do the math Smashbox primer is $36 per ounce while the Monistat version is $5.21 per ounce,” they explained.
Reddit users shared their thoughts on the beauty tip in the comments section.
“I have had reactions to every primer out there even those for sensitive skin,” wrote one reader.
