Ambiente Friendly slashed into 10-1 from 100s in Epsom Derby betting after brilliant Lingfield win
AMBIENTE FRIENDLY galloped his way into Derby contention with a runaway Lingfield win for veteran trainer James Fanshawe.
Jockey Callum Shepherd had to hold on tight as his horse put on the afterburners and sprinted clear to win by four impressive lengths from Ballydoyle’s Illinois.
This was arguably the most impressive Derby trial we’ve seen so far this spring, bar Hidden Law’s ill-fated success at Chester when the horse sadly broke down after the line.
The bookies slashed him into 10-1 (from 100-1) and his success injected some much-needed intrigue into the Epsom Classic, with the colt breaking up Coolmore and Godolphin’s apparent stranglehold.
Winning jock Shepherd grinned: “We can dream of the Derby now, that was absolutely exceptional.
“He gave me a great ride, he has come on so much since his comeback run in the Fielden at Newmarket.

Earlier on the card, You Got Me booked her ticket to Epsom on May 31 when making every yard of the running to win the Oaks Trial.
Jockey Hector Crouch nicked a few lengths shortly after the start and the others, including the hot favourite Danielle, couldn’t reel her in.
She is tops 10-1 for the Oaks now and winning trainer Ralph Beckett said: “It was important to get her in a rhythm out in front as she doesn’t like being ordered around.
“Hector knows her well and rides this track particularly well and it all came together. I think Epsom will suit her well.”
At Ascot, cheerful Charlie Fellowes saluted jockey Tom Marquand after The Wizard Of Eye bagged the Victoria Cup.
The well-backed 7-1 shot surged home from off the pace to beat Ramazan in the final strides of the £100,000 handicap.
Fellowes said: “Tom gave him a superb ride, it’s a lovely pot to win.”
