Columbus man extradited from Virginia indicted on New Albany murder

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A man extradited to Columbus from Virginia on murder charges was formally indicted and faced a judge Friday morning.

According to court documents, Ryan Polk, 36, is facing 10 charges, including two counts of murder, aggravated murder, felonious assault, domestic violence, tampering with evidence, unlawful use of a weapon as a violent criminal, violating a protection order, escaping, and having weapons under disability.

He is accused of murdering 31-year-old Morgan Bruster in New Albany on Feb. 23, then reportedly fled the state of Ohio, before being found in Springfield, Va., over 400 miles away from Columbus.

Bruster was found shot dead on Feb. 23 and was pronounced dead at 6:58 p.m. after medics arrived. Officers were at the residence in the 7000 block of Stapleton Drive in the Central College neighborhood near New Albany, Ohio for a well-being check.

Polk was arrested on March 4 and taken into custody while attempting to flee police in Fairfax County. He was detained in Virginia until his extradition on April 30.

Polk was issued a $2 million bond in municipal court on one murder charge along with a temporary protection order. His bond amount remained the same on Friday during the common pleas court arraignment hearing.
