$10.8 million development grant going to Cap. Region

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded $10.85 million in Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) to five local municipalities in the Capital Region on Friday, May 10. The grants were given to the cities of Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Saratoga Springs, and the town of Colonie.

The total $10,850,870 in funding will help support the awarded municipalities, provide resources to build homes, support those who rent or own, create jobs, and assist those who need it. The money was provided through multiple Department of Housing and Urban Development programs, such as the HOME Investment Partnership program and the Emergency Solutions Grant program.

Senator Chuck Schumer said the funding is a top priority to make sure the Capital Region can provide affordable housing to build stronger and more resilient communities. "This significant infusion of federal dollars will empower our municipalities to take ownership of investments in their respective communities, providing flexibility for those communities to use the funds in ways that address their locally specific needs," he said.

Grants awarded

• Albany: $4,946,336, including $3,080,288 through the CDBG program
• Schenectady: $3,379,244, including $2,101,045 through the CDBG program, $1,093,420 through the HOME Investment Partnerships program, and $184,779 through the Emergency Solutions Grant program
• Troy: $1,847,415 including $1,696,538 through the CDBG program and $150,877 through the Emergency Solutions Grant program
• Colonie: $345,117 through the CDBG program
• Saratoga Springs: $332,758 through the CDBG program
