CT firefighters rescue driver whose vehicle went over retaining wall, down embankment
One person was rescued from a vehicle that was left on its side and supported by trees after going over a retaining wall and down an embankment during a crash in Norwich Thursday night.
Firefighters responded to the area of Summit Street shortly before 10:30 p.m. on the report of a car that had gone down an embankment, according to the Norwich Fire Department.
Fire officials said crews had to stabilize the vehicle, which was left on its side and supported by some trees, before rescuing the driver who was trapped inside. Crews then used a stokes basket to lower the victim down on a rope system to paramedics below on Summit Street, officials said.
The victim was taken to Backus Hospital and listed in stable condition.
