Early voting in Carroll County goes ‘smoothly,’ with 4,984 voters casting ballots
Early voting in Carroll County ended quietly Thursday, with 4,984 of the 129,485 currently registered voters casting a ballot.
Voters began casting ballots May 2 ahead of this Tuesday’s presidential primary election, at Westminster Senior Center, South Carroll Senior Center and the Coppermine PantherPlex in Hampstead.
“Early voting was very smooth and there were no issues,” Carroll County’s Election Director Erin Perrone stated in an email. “Currently, we are getting ready for the primary election day. We are making sure the polling places are staffed appropriately, the election equipment is delivered to the polling places, and emptying our ballot drop boxes on a daily basis.
“I anticipate that Election Day will be just as smooth as early voting was for the voters of Carroll County,” she said.
The primary presidential election is from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to the Maryland State Board of Elections website, the first and second days of early voting saw the highest numbers of early voters, with vote counts trickling off on days three and four, and steadily picking up on days five, six and seven, before ending with the highest number on the final day. The following are the number of voters that cast ballots in Carroll County during early voting:
- Day 1: 627
- Day 2: 596
- Day 3: 309
- Day 4: 346
- Day 5: 699
- Day 6: 751
- Day 7: 733
- Day 8: 923
Requests for mail-in ballots as of Thursday in Carroll County totaled 17,192, according to the Maryland State Board of Elections.
All mail-in ballot drop boxes will close at 8 p.m., Tuesday.
As of April 30, there are 33,337 registered Democrats in Carroll County, according to the Carroll County Board of Elections website. There are 63,784 registered Republicans and 30,168 unaffiliated voters. The Libertarian Party has 848 voters, the No Label Movement has 15 and 1,333 voters are considered “other.”
Early voting in the general election will be Oct. 24-31. Election Day is Nov. 5.
