Legendary band will make surprise appearance at Eurovision final – but there’s a twist
ABBA will not reunite for the Eurovision Song Contest final tomorrow – despite hopes from fans that they would.
However, they will still be celebrated as one of the most defining bands to ever appear at the annual event.
The group had sparked hope they would come together on stage in Malmo, Sweden, to celebrate 50 years since they won the contest with Waterloo.
But their real involvement at Eurovision this weekend has now been revealed.
Instead of real life appearances, ABBA’s ‘ABBA-tars’ (the hologram avatars from London’s ABBA Voyage residency) will be seen on screens talking about Eurovision.
A montage of clips of the band performing will then play, before other Eurovision icons take over in ABBA’s place.
The performance will end with Austria’s Conchita Wurst and Swedish acts Charlotte Perrelli and Carola giving their rendition of the track.
While ABBA might not be there in person, there is still another Swedish band who will be reuniting for the contest this weekend.
Swedish band Alcazar will appear on stage to sing their hit Crying At The Discotheque, which was originally released in 2000.
Despite their success in the charts, the disco-pop group – made up of Andreas Lundstedt, Lina Hedlund and Tess Merkel – have never made it into the contest.
But it isn’t for a lack of trying – as the trio competed five times in ‘Melodifestivalen’, the Swedish pre-selection process for Eurovision,
Now they’ll finally be getting their chance.
Björn Skifs, 77, will open the event, while last year’s winner Loreen will also take to the stage as an interval act.
Olly Alexander will be representing the United Kingdom at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in Sweden’s Malmo Arena.
He will be performing his track Dizzy, which he worked on alongside Dua Lipa’s producer to make it catchy.
Current favourite to win this weekend is Croatia‘s Baby Lasagna – with their catchy track Rim Tim Tagi Dim proving a hit online.
