Over two million mothers and children vaccinated last year in Afghanistan

0

The Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan announced that over two million mothers and children in the country have received various vaccinations.

The ministry recently announced that it plans to vaccinate children under five who were previously excluded from the COVID-19 vaccination in the next four years.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, more than two million mothers and children in the country have been vaccinated so far, and this process is ongoing.

However, Abdul Wali Haqani, the Deputy Minister of Health Services, stated: “Approximately 1.6 million targeted children, which is 81 percent, have been vaccinated, and 794,098 mothers, which is 91 percent, have received the tetanus vaccine.”

It is worth mentioning that officials in this ministry have made these statements concurrently with the vaccination immunization week.

Meanwhile, in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the battle against polio remains a critical public health challenge. These two countries are among the last in the world where polio continues to be endemic.

Efforts to eradicate the disease have been hampered by various obstacles including political instability, logistical barriers, and resistance from local populations due to misinformation about the vaccine’s safety and intentions.
