‘I am who I am’ – Postecoglou insists ‘extra scrutiny’ won’t make him change

0

In his latest press conference today, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou was asked about what he has learned in his first year at the club, and insists he is not about to change his identity and his approach despite the added pressure of being in the Premier League.

Since arriving at Tottenham last summer, Ange Postecoglou has quite an impact on the club and the league itself.

His jovial attitude, determination to play exciting football, and general candid nature with the press and his players have really struck a chord with not just Spurs fans, but those in the wider game, too.

By and large, his methods have worked, too. The Lilywhites are currently fifth in the league, and are currently on course to secure Europa League football for next season, all despite losing Harry Kane last summer.

Postecoglou doesn’t want to change his ways

For Postecoglou, coming over to England having earned his stripes in Australia, Japan, and Scotland, the pressure was certainly on, and very few expected him to succeed.

Speaking to the press this afternoon (via Football.London), Postecoglou explained how he has not really changed much over the course of this year, and that that has been an active decision by the man himself to stick to his guns in the Premier League.

He said: “Nothing too spectacular. I am who I am. I’ve resisted the notion to change the person I am. That’s not easy in the Premier League with the extra scrutiny.”

Fair play to Ange, I don’t think he needs to have learned much about himself or changed his approach. He’s confident he knows what works, we’ve seen more than a glimpse of that in action, and if he gets the backing and time he needs, I’ve no doubt it will all lead to success here.
