I’m losing my freaking mind over my neighbour’s garden addition – it’s even angered my boss but she refuses to remove it
A WOMAN has claimed she is losing her mind over her neighbour’s new garden accessory which causes noise “24 hours a day.”
The Reddit user shared how the person living next to her has recently installed wind chimes that are driving her “insane.”

The woman wrote: “I have 2 next door neighbours, a couple, who are really nice people and we get along really well, but they have five wind chimes hanging on their second floor balcony that are driving me insane.
“Our houses are maybe 15′ apart, and the wind chimes are maybe 25′ from my bedroom window.
“I also work from home and the wind chimes are maybe 15′ from my office window. I can hear the wind chimes while I’m in my own house with the windows and doors closed.”
The woman stated how the chimes have annoyed her for a while, and even her boss has commented on them.
She continued: “Now my boss has made a comment about hearing it in the background while I was giving a presentation and now I need to record a number of other presentations for work and I’m worried they are going to be audible.
“I have asked if they could take the wind chimes down and one of them said that the wind chimes were a memorial to her dead parents, so then I felt like an a**hole, but I asked if they could move the wind chimes to the front porch.
“She said no and suggested I get noise cancelling headphones.”
The woman explained that she gets migraines and also can’t sleep at night due to the loud chiming, but the neighbour declined to take them down saying they bring her “joy.”
The upset Reddit user continued: “As a ‘compromise’ they moved one of the wind chimes to the other side of the balcony maybe 10′ over, moved another to their front porch and replaced that one with a ‘quieter’ one.
“I can’t tell the difference whatsoever.
“I’m not sure what to do. I feel like my requests have been very reasonable and having that many wind chimes up when you live this close to anyone is so insanely inconsiderate.
“I don’t want to involve the police or lawyers but I’m losing my freaking mind and this is impacting my livelihood and health at this point.”
The woman added that “there’s not really many other noises that are 24 hours a day”, and that she’s “not noise sensitive” but the “wind chimes are just overly loud and sound horrible.”

People were quick to chime in on the dilemma, with one saying: “Start playing the bagpipes outside their window each morning as a tribute to your Scottish ancestors.”
Another added: “I can only wonder how much ‘joy’ your neighbour gets, knowing each clink, clank, and clunk is bothering you. Personally, knowing I was bothering my neighbour at work and hurting them when they had a migraine would take all the joy out of it for me.”
I had a two-year bin war with my next door neighbour
Gemma Smith and Sophie Wood were engaged in a weekly feud for a year over their wheelie bins.
When Gemma moved next door to Sophie, 34, who is unemployed, in November 2020 they were civil to one another.
Gemma, who is single and doesn’t work due to stress, says: “Sophie seemed nice and we’d stop and exchange pleasantries.
“But it all changed at the beginning of 2022, when Sophie’s bin was full and she put her rubbish bag in mine.
“I took it out and put it on top of her bin.
“It fell off, gulls pecked at it and there was rubbish everywhere.”
Both women refused to clear up the mess, claiming it was the other one’s fault.
Gemma says: “I felt so angry.
“There was cat litter spread all over my drive — it was absolutely disgusting and we ended up shouting at each other.
“We were both as bad as each other — we’d walk past each other and I’d tell her she was a lazy cow and to clean up after herself.
“We’d scream insults at each other.”
Within six months Sophie had set up a CCTV camera and threatened to report Gemma to the council.
In retaliation, Gemma set up the baby monitor — which can record video — to try to pin more wrongdoing on Sophie.
Then last July Sophie spotted Gemma in tears on her doorstep following a burglary at her home.
Gemma says: “Sophie came straight round and asked if there was anything she could do.
“We are now the best of friends and help each other out all the time.”
