What kind of job can I get work with AI?
There are a whole raft of new jobs being created to support the use of AI.
Key ones include Machine Learning Engineers who create algorithms and programmes which allow machines to work without being directed by humans, such as a self-driving car or a customised social media newsfeed.
Data scientists use software, artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyse and interpret large amounts of data and AI trainers help teach AI to do jobs, just like training a human.
There are even specialist jobs in AI policy, helping to formulate laws and policy decisions regulating AI, including risks and benefits.
How much does an AI job pay?
The demand is so high right now that AI roles pay way above average.
While the average AI salary is currently £64,968, machine learning engineers can command over £100,000 and data scientists usually earn more than £70,000.
What qualifications do I need to work in AI?
Most people working in the AI field have a degree in a related area, including computer science and data science and some jobs require master’s degrees too.
While that is still the main route, an increasing number of firms are offering degree apprenticeships too.
As AI becomes more mainstream, the number of standard apprenticeships and entry-level jobs working with AI is beginning to increase too.
