BBC Breakfast underwent yet another major hosting shake-up as a rarely-seen star was brought on board this morning.

The show has been without one of its longest-running stars all this week as Scots weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, 62, took time off from the show.

Fans have been left missing her bubbly demeanour on the programmer and she has instead been replaced by a slew of different stand-in hosts.

Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt were on the BBC‘s red sofas as uaual this morning but they were accompanied by a rarely-seen face to deliver the weather.

BBC meteorologist Simon King had been chosen to stand-in for the missing Carol on today’s programme.

Simon was broadcasting live from the Blue Peter garden in MediaCityUK, Salford just outside of the BBC Breakfast studios.

He opted for a blue shirt and grey jacket as he presented live from the iconic BBC filming location.

Simon, who is also a former RAF officer, has worked for the Beeb since 2008 but does not often gets a chance to shine on BBC Breakfast.

Instead, he provides the regular weather updates on BBC Radio 5 Live‘s breakfast programme.

He can also be seen from time-to-time on the North West regional output, BBC North West Tonight.

Carol’s absence from the programme comes after it was confirmed that she would be heading away on holiday amid countless shake-ups at the BBC’s morning offering.

Carol has revealed she’s taking time off as she heads on holiday to Cornwall.

Updating her fans on her adventure so far, the meteorologist said: “Just visited Tresco (Isles of Scilly).

“@Hurtiagents To call it stunning doesn’t do it justice. Weather beautiful. Fell in love with the red squirrels.”

One person who is unlikely to be missing Carol is her co-star Naga Munchetty amid rumours the pair are locked in a ‘heated fued’ and her failure to acknowledge Carol’s time-off.

Fans have been picking up on frosty tension among the stars with Naga recently being left furious live on-air when their broken friendship was brought-up.

During an awkward conversation with sports reporter Mike Bushell, Naga attempted to segway into Carol Kirkwood‘s weather report as she curiously questioned Mike about the 62-year-old as she said to him: “Do you think Carol listens to us?”

Mike then chuckled as he said: “Well, not you!”

Naga looked furious as she quickly turned her head away from him as her eyes rolled back in apparent anger.

Naga appeared to be becoming increasingly irritated as she spat back: “What did you say?

“What did, no, what did you say?”

Mike attempted to play it off as he claimed he was making “a joke” as he tried to avoid Naga’s glare.

Charlie soon threw to Carol in the London studio as Naga continued to look on in disgust amid an awkward silence.

As Carol was in shot, Mike could still be heard saying to Naga: “Ask her yourself… how long is that stare going to last?”
