A Connecticut man is facing multiple charges for allegedly holding a woman against her will at knifepoint and assaulting her in Willington, state police said.

Troopers assigned to Troop C received a report of a disturbance between a man and woman at a business in Willington around 8:23 a.m. on Wednesday, according to Connecticut State Police.

Desk personnel informed troopers they had received a third-party 911 call reporting alleging that a woman had been physically assaulted and held at knifepoint against her will, state police said. The caller told dispatchers the accused man was inside a vehicle in the parking area of the business, according to state police.

As troopers responded to the business, they reportedly located the man, later identified as 29-year-old Jonathan Yokabaskas of Granby, in the front passenger seat of a car in the parking lot, state police said.

According to state police, Yokabaskas initially failed to comply with verbal directions but was safely detained in handcuffs and patted down for weapons. No weapons were found on Yokabaskas, state police said.

Additional troopers located the female victim, who reportedly had visible injuries to her face and hands, according to state police.

“Based upon initial findings, it was determined that the incident met the criteria of a family violence crime,” state police said.

The woman told to troopers Yokabaskas has been living in a tent in a wooded area off of Ruby Road in Willington. While visiting him at his camp site on Tuesday night, she said Yokabaskas allegedly threatened to kill her during an argument. As she attempted to leave, Yokabaskas allegedly forced her to the ground.

The woman alleged that as she attempted to leave a second time, Yokabaskas hit her in the face, forced her to the ground and bound her wrists with rope, which she later convinced him to remove, according to state police.

The woman told troopers that in the hours that followed, Yokabaskas allegedly threatened to kill her again and held a knife against her throat several times, state police said.

According to the woman, she convinced Yokabaskas to allow her to use the restroom at a nearby business around 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning. As they arrived at the business, the woman said Yokabaskas stayed inside her vehicle while she went inside. Once inside, the woman contacted a family member and told them what had happened, prompting them to call 911, according to state police.

EMS responded to the scene to transport the woman to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment, state police said.

While on the scene, troopers asked Yokabaskas what happened and he reportedly acknowledged that he and the woman had been involved in a fight, state police said. When troopers asked Yokabaskas if he had a knife, he “acknowledged that he possessed one but that it was not currently on his person,” according to state police.

During a search of the passenger compartment of the vehicle, troopers reportedly recovered a knife with a 6-inch blade that was later processed as evidence in the investigation, state police said.

Yokabaskas was placed under arrest and transported to Troop C, where he was processed and charged with possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, second-degree breach of peace, third-degree assault, second-degree threatening, second-degree kidnapping and first-degree unlawful restraint.

Yokabaskas was being held on a $250,000 cash/surety bond, according to state police. He was transferred to the custody of the Connecticut Department of Correction pending his arraignment on Thursday at Rockville Superior Court.
