Venus Vafa (‘Survivor 46’ exit interview): ‘I hope that I have made the women of Iran proud’

On Wednesday’s 11th episode of “Survivor 46,” an anyone-can-win immunity challenge and an uncomfortably long decision for who would eat pizza on reward took already high tensions around camp even higher. Venus Vafa had her eyes set on taking out the new “kingpin” around camp, but instead fell victim to yet another blindside… with a newly found idol still tucked in her pocket. Read on for her “Survivor 46” exit interview from the end of the episode.

Knowing that Tiffany Nicole Ervin’s idol was likely placed back in the game, the tribe went on an idol hunt to claim the power for themselves. Having an idea of where to look, Venus found the idol away from the prying eyes of everyone else. Later, she came incredibly close to winning an immunity challenge, but mistakes right at the end opened the door for Maria Shrime Gonzalez to win it instead.

When Maria chose to bring Q Burdette on the pizza reward with her, talk spread of how close the two of them are and that Q would need to be sent home next in order to break up the new power pair. Because Venus was so sure that there would be four votes against Q, she felt comfortable not playing her idol even though she knew that votes would be coming her way. “I went home with an idol,” Venus admitted after being voted out. “But I’m proud of the journey I’ve gone on.”

Among a cast that is not shy about their distaste for each other, Venus stood out as one of the most maligned players on the beach. Q pointed out during tribal council that no one trusts talking strategy with Venus because if you give her a name she will just spread that information to anyone that will listen. Earlier in the day, Charlie Davis may have been put off to working with Venus when she hinted at having an advantage, but refused to give him any concrete information to build the trust.

Still, Venus left in good spirits and proud of the game she played. One of her goals for being on the show was to be a voice for the women of her culture. “I hope that I have made the women of Iran proud,” she said. “I have three words that I’d want to say which is: women, life, freedom. I hope that I was one voice that helped uplift those who are voiceless.” Of the specific journey of playing the game, she concluded that “this was a wild ride and I wouldn’t take it back for a single thing.”
