The sixth episode of the noir detective drama revealed that John Sugar (Farrell) is an alien who’s been dispatched to Earth with his alien pals to observe and report on humans. It’s a big swing that’s been divisive among critics and completely changes the show. But does it change its Emmy hopes? The series has been an underdog contender — it’s in 11th place in the odds in drama series — while Farrell has been sitting in third place in the drama actor rankings. As the saying goes, there’s no such thing as bad press. With a million shows on the air and many of them getting lost in the shuffle, any and all chatter about your show’s Big Twist can’t hurt that might draw in new viewers can’t hurt.
